KINDERGARTEN READINESS SKILLS

LANGUAGE AND READING:

  • I match and name 12-15 lower case letters including my first name.

  • I match and distinguish among the shapes families of a-e-o-c, b-p-d-q-g, m-n-u-r-h-v-w, t-i-l-j-f, s-z-k-y.

  • I recognize the printed words for 10 common objects labeled in my home.

  • I sing the ABC and number songs independently while pointing to the letters and numbers.

  • I recite 5-10 nursery rhymes.

  • I can match words that rhyme.

  • I name and reproduce the sounds of 12-15 letters including those in my first name.

  • I hear and repeat beginning and ending sounds in words.

  • I can sit and listen to a short familiar story and tell you what will happen. I respond to questions and I can retell the story.

  • I know that letters make words. I know that printed books read from left to right and the print on the page goes left to right, top to bottom. I know that the left page is followed by the right page when the book is open. I also know the front of the book and the back of the book.

  • I hear my parents speak to me and I respond with a full sentence.

  • I know about 5,000 words!

  • I can print my first name.

MATH AND REASONING:

  • I can count in order to 20.

  • I can match numbers shapes from 1-12

  • I can copy and trace. I write numbers to 5.

  • I name and draw 6 basic geometric shapes.

  • I know these colors: red, blue, green, yellow, black, white, orange, gray, brown, purple and pink.

  • I can name and sort items by color, shape and size.

  • I recognize numbers and quantities to 10 and accurately use "more than", "less than", greater than", "smaller than", and equal to.

  • I can do simple addition and subtraction.

  • I create or complete 2-3 step color patterns (rb,rb,rb,rb, rrb,rrb,rrb,)

  • I can do complex puzzles.

SOCIAL SKILLS:

  • I settle into new group situations with little stress.

  • I transition easily to different activities.

  • I can focus on a task for at least 5 minutes, even if there are distractions.

  • I remember and follow 3-step sequence of actions.

  • I follow simple rules.

  • I take care of all my dressing and bathroom needs.

  • I help clean up after activities.

  • I play and share nicely with others!
