Pleasant Board of Education Scholarship Program Mission Statement:
The objective of the Pleasant Board of Education Scholarship Program is to: 1)recognize, promote, and support continued student academic excellence and achievement, 2) assist those in financial need who display and extraordinary desire to further their education an succeed in life, and 3) reward seniors who have made a significant contributions to the betterment of the Pleasant Schools.
Dear Senior, This page has been prepared especially for you. Please take time to note the many scholarship opportunities available to you. For your convenience, scholarship sponsors, award amounts, and application deadlines are listed. Scholarship applications and selection criteria may be obtained from the High School Guidance office. Questions or concerns may be addressed to Mr. Michael Ward, high school guidance counselor.
Board Administered Scholarship Guidelines Applicant must:
Be a senior student or Pleasant graduate seeking to further his/her education in a technical, vocational, or any degree-granting program. Be carrying a full time academic class load. Demonstrate an extraordinary desire to succeed. Show promise of continuing a standard of excellence as indicated by two references, a personal statement describing his/her educational goals and commitment to continued achievements. Have completed a minimum of six (6) consecutive semesters as a full-time student at Pleasant High School. Semesters will be determined by board-adopted school calendar. Be willing to submit to a personal interview with the Scholarship Selection Committee. All scholarships awards will be paid directly to the parent/guardian or the institution student is attending.
Scholarship Selection Committee: The Scholarship Selection Committee consists of five (5) permanent members, and two (2) at large fund raising directors. Any committee member whose child, relative, or personal friend may be eligible for a scholarship award will disqualify himself/herself from participation in the selection process.
The Scholarship Selection Committee will consist of seven (7) members representing each of the following areas: High School Principal High School Guidance Counselor Board Member Community Member Athletic Director Two (2) At Large Fund Directors
Awards: The amount of the scholarship awards will vary year to year depending on the amount of funds raised. The Scholarship Committee will consider "need" in its award. Prior to the awarding of the scholarship, recipient must also verify that he/she has been admitted for full-time enrollment at an accredited institution of higher learning, technical, or vocational training program. Scholarship recipients will be notified by (May 10th) of the academic school year. Upon reapplication, scholarships may be renewable annually provided the recipient remains a full=time student and maintains an overall grade point average of 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 GPA grading scale.
