The Board of Education voted this spring to raise Pay To Participate fees again this year due to rising costs of these programs in conjunction with the consequences of the May levy failure. However, the Board voted on August 30th to amend the policy and reduce these fees IF the November 2nd levy is APPROVED.
PAY TO PARTICIPATE FEES
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
All High School Extra-Curricular Activities are $250.00 per year/per child which includes all OHSAA athletics. There is no limit on the number of activities in which a student may participate. There are no fees for marching band because it is a curricular event.
There are no fees for clubs at the High School or Middle School (i.e. French Club, Yearbook, etc).

Reading
helps us to connect, think, judge, decide, and contribute in our society. It is a part of everything that we
do.At Pleasant Elementary, we
know what a difference it can make to provide a strong, solid reading
foundation to our young learners. In order to support this fact, Pleasant Elementary offers Title I
Reading (The Reading Center).The
Reading Center provides extra help in developing reading skills and strategies
such as letter recognition, sound production, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency,
vocabulary, comprehension, etc.The material is taught using a Standard's Based Curriculum and lots of
innovation, technology, and hands-on lessons. The program is provided to selective students in
kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade.
At
the beginning of the year, all K-3 students are assessed using National and/or
State Standardized Reading Assessments. We use the data from those assessments, along with recommendations from
our highly educated staff, to decide on which students would most benefit from
our curriculum and instruction. Those students are then sent home a Title I packet that contains a
detailed program overview, a compact, a list of classroom rules, and a
permission slip that needs to be signed and sent back. The decisions are currently being made;
therefore, the packets will be coming home in the next few days. Please watch your child's bookbag to
find out if your child has qualified. If you do receive a packet, please read through the information and send
the material back as soon as possible. We will not begin servicing your student until the paperwork has been
returned.Feel free to e-mail or
call Mrs. Murphy or Mrs. Cook if you have any questions concerning our program
or why your child did or did not qualify.
We
are really looking forward to a fun year of learning to read!
As these sweltering days of
August continue, we wish to inform you of our schools' policies regarding the
use of water bottles for the first few months of this coming school year.
Students at all grade levels may
carry water in their own bottles if the FORECAST temperature from Columbus TV
Channel 4 is over 80 degrees for any particular school day as of the 6:00 PM
broadcast on the previous day. Students may bring water only. No pop, juices,
etc.
We look forward to another
great school year. As always, please feel free to call us if you have any
questions or concerns.
The high school will have an
assembly on Friday, September 10th to help the students appreciate
and remember the heroic acts of bravery and Americans who lost their life
during the tragic events on September 11, 2001. The Advanced Placement Government Class will be preparing
the assembly. The high school will
operate on an adjusted schedule, which may be viewed here, for the day.
Gifted classes at Pleasant Middle School have been involved in service projects this year. Marion County gifted classes have chosen Marion County Children’s Services as a focus for their volunteer efforts this year.
Pleasant’s 6th grade gifted QUEST reading class has collected items for children in grades K-3, which were delivered to Children’s Services on Friday, May 21, 2010.
Students in the gifted Reading classes in grades 6,7, & 8, along with the Spanish 4 students at the High School, have been working all year on a service project to aid in food distribution all over the world. This project was in response to the massive earthquake in Haiti, which affected so many lives. Students used the website FreeRice to earn grains of rice by answering questions relating to academics. FreeRice is part of the United Nations World Food Programme. Corporate sponsors underwrite the cost of the rice earned by students. In just one semester, students were able to earn 726,000 grains of rice (each correct answer gets 10 grains of rice), which would be enough to provide two meals a day for one person for 38 days. We felt we were able to help, even in this small way
